Crosby will surely go down as one of the game’s greatest goal scorers; however, his play is defined by far more than just his offensive prowess. In the end, if he is not continuously hampered by injuries, I can see him being placed along side Steve Yzerman in the HHOF. Sidney Crosby is the essential piece of the Penguins' rebirth, possessing explosive speed and great vision that make him a force in all three zones of the ice. He is as quick to position himself as the best option when he doesn’t have the puck as he is to identify the open man when he does; he is surely not a player you will find waiting up ice for the homerun pass. Such praise being hurled upon any player would lead you to believe that he should be enshrined tomorrow, but what is a little surprising is that for being such a dominant player, Crosby's +/- stats are average at best. His rookie season was his only net minus year (-1), but he has never finished near the top of the league in any full season. It did appear, however, that he was on his way to making the necessary adjustments last season, sporting a (+20) rating before his year was cut short by injury.

Ovechkin may well be the most dominant offensive player in the post-Gretzky era. I would surely imagine that Ovechkin subscribes to the well-known cliché, ‘the best defense is a good offense.’ That does not necessarily mean that he doesn’t play defense; it just means that he is more likely to rev up the engine to full throttle when he is moving away from his goalie. Ovechkin finished the 2010 season with the second best +/- statistics in the game (+45), and he has historically posted a better +/- than Crosby, less his sophomore year when he was a dismal (-19). There is no doubt Ovechkin is a physical presence in all three zones, but in the end, I don’t think he is as instrumental in the defensive zone as Crosby is.

Crosby and Ovechkin are both unquestionably at the top of the game in the neutral and offensive zones, but Crosby gets my vote as the stronger two-way hockey player.

Original Six games? That's a thing of the past. This is the Nu-NHL. For better or worse, I don't think O6 games are sotnhmieg worth marketing. For that matter, most of the divisional opponents of the Wings are "ho-hum" games as well. But in other divisions, it is pretty heated and closely contested.I don't want to count our chickens before they hatch, but I don't see a serious threat from anyone in our division to take the thrown away.In an ideal situation in my eyes, I'd like to see more matchups (at least one game each) against Eastern Conference opponents.

Sid the Kid has a while to go before he's the gtreeast player in the world. But all I gotta say is, it's about damn time. I haven't been able to watch hockey on TV for forever been surviving on Yahoo! and Versus online broadcasts and whatever live streams I can scrounge up. Three cheers for the Jan. 1 game! No wonder Fleury was pissed when he got injured.
