Bose has long been associated with noise-cancellation, and its QuietComfort 15 headphones offer a refined version of its lauded technology. The Bose QC15s lead the industry in this area, offsetting outside noise to the point of near silence. The QuietComfort 15 can also be used exclusively for noise reduction, if the user wants pure quiet in a noisy space.

Sennheiser allows users to listen to the 310BT without Noise-Cancelation, when desired.

The Sennheiser PXC 310BT headphones supply different functionality around its noise-cancelation, providing the user with the ability to turn off the noise reduction and continue to listen to the speakers. By contrast, the Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones, like others in its class, will not work at all without the noise reduction engaged.

In terms of pure noise reduction performance, the 310BT by Sennheiser dampens outside noise significantly, but comes up short of Bose’s benchmark technology.

Hi Peter,Funny you should mtienon the Sennheiser HD 650. I absolutely LOVE them. I haven't bought them yet, but the minute I get the spare change to fork over for them, I will!To tell you the truth, I do like them better than Bose (and that's saying a lot since I'm a big fan of Bose) but the 650 s cost about $150 more than the Bose and I am a strict believer in the law of diminishing returns. So, for the incremental benefit to sound quality you have to pay a lot more money. Personally, for me it's not worth it but my headphones aren't for work or anything just for personal use.

I use them (audio-technica quiet point) when I work at coffeeshops. When you put them on, you can aclulaty hear the noise recede with a hiss. It is surprising. However, it works to filter out concussive, deep noises and background roar the best. The odd result is that voices aclulaty become clearer in the coffesshop. That's fine when I'm in a conversation but I'd like phones that block out all levels of noise, as in, complete, monastic silence. That would be productive.
