comparison review analysis sheds light on which option is better in a given area

Simon Cowell came out and said it tonight during a discussion with L.A. Reid, there is one huge difference between American Idol and The X-Factor. American Idol was originally subtitled “The Search for a Superstar” and that’s all it’s been to this point. You go out and find people who can sing remarkably well, then ask America to choose whose album they would buy. The X-Factor is about finding performers with personality, energy, and the potential to be something really special and helping them grow into that. In the coming weeks the judges will actually be getting their hands dirty and really making superstars, not just sitting back and remarking on people’s singing. That’s where The X-Factor’s real edge is to me. I get tired of watching people stand in the middle of a stage and sing Unchained Melody every year, but if Simon Cowell is as good as his word, we’ll be getting a real superstar out of The X-Factor. The format is certainly conducive to it.

The first night of the X-Factor looks promising. The format, judging dynamic, and added investment in each contestant looks to be enough to beat out American Idol, but let’s not forget that the show is still in its infancy stages. It has a lot of time left to evolve or to falter. In the meantime, I sat most of this season of American Idol out with a blend of fatigue and apathy, but I’ll certainly be back for more The X-Factor tomorrow night.

7 Comments So Far …

  1. johnO johnO says:
I think the yellow ticket and 'you're going to Hollywood' has a far more appealing conclusion to each contestant's apppearance. X Factor really fell flat there.

  2. Jeremy Jeremy says:
I understand what you're saying, the ceremonial aspect of it is nice, but I have to say, forty thousand cheering fans applauding your auditions makes up for that to me

  3. JJizzle JJizzle says:
I like the X-Factor show better because the singers are different ages but dont we have enough singers? will the world topple off its axis if too many people sing at once?

  4. Betty Betty says:
The X-Factor should have brought back Brian Dunkleman.

  5. WarrenG WarrenG says:
It's weird, but I find Simon and Paula far more identifiable than Steven Tyler and J. Lo. AI did better in the ratings, but it's just b/c it's reached a level of fame that ensures a set amount of viewers. If AI stopped contestants from singing altogether for the next 3 seasons, the name alone would continue to draw viewers in the millions.

  6. Jaime92 Jaime92 says:
    X-Factor=DUD!

  7. Lisa B Lisa B says:
Interesting comparison... I like your approach. FWIW... I'd take the old AI or the new Xfactor.
