British TV personality, Steve Jones, has signed on to host The X-Factor

American Idol
American Idol has one of the most well known hosts of any television show on the air. Ryan Seacrest has carved out a niche in the market a mile wide. When he started, he (briefly) co-hosted the show and was otherwise relatively unknown. Since assuming the lone hosting duties at American Idol, Seacrest has taken over for Casey Kasem on the weekend top 40 and hosts/produces an assortment of programming for the E! television network.

Ryan Seacrest’s transformation throughout American Idol’s run has been more dramatic than any other personality on the show. He’s evolved from being Simon Cowell’s punching bag to being a superstar in his own right.

The X-Factor
On the other hand, the host for The X-Factor is Steve Jones. Jones comes into the show already having a well-established career as a model and a television host. You say you’ve never heard of him? That’s because everything he’s hosted is on British television and nearly impossible to find in the U.S. Obviously, there must be something there, but to be honest I haven’t seen it yet. For the entire first episode they locked him in a room in the back and only gave him brief interview clips. Perhaps he’ll be exceptional, but he doesn’t seem to have the personality of Seacrest or America’s Got Talent’s Nick Cannon. He is a very handsome man, however.

ROUND: American Idol picks this one up, though right now it’s a bit hard to tell.

7 Comments So Far …

  1. johnO johnO says:
I think the yellow ticket and 'you're going to Hollywood' has a far more appealing conclusion to each contestant's apppearance. X Factor really fell flat there.

  2. Jeremy Jeremy says:
I understand what you're saying, the ceremonial aspect of it is nice, but I have to say, forty thousand cheering fans applauding your auditions makes up for that to me

  3. JJizzle JJizzle says:
I like the X-Factor show better because the singers are different ages but dont we have enough singers? will the world topple off its axis if too many people sing at once?

  4. Betty Betty says:
The X-Factor should have brought back Brian Dunkleman.

  5. WarrenG WarrenG says:
It's weird, but I find Simon and Paula far more identifiable than Steven Tyler and J. Lo. AI did better in the ratings, but it's just b/c it's reached a level of fame that ensures a set amount of viewers. If AI stopped contestants from singing altogether for the next 3 seasons, the name alone would continue to draw viewers in the millions.

  6. Jaime92 Jaime92 says:
    X-Factor=DUD!

  7. Lisa B Lisa B says:
Interesting comparison... I like your approach. FWIW... I'd take the old AI or the new Xfactor.
